Don't you feel good when your car looks clean and shiny? A well-kept car looks great when you drive down to the street. But when you go for a long drive, your car turns dirty. The dirt and grime accumulate under the hood of the used engines that needs to be cleaned quickly.

Cleaning a used engine sounds daunting, but is easy if you follow the steps given below.

how can you clean your engine quickly and efficiently

We have mentioned some important points to clean the engine of your vehicle better so that you do not make any mistake. Here are those tips-

Schedule Engine Cleaning.

Schedule your day as per the climatic condition to wash your car’s engine. Ideally, you can pick a warm day but not too humid. Warmer weather especially low humidity with some wind will help dry the engine and its components easily after cleaning..

Cool Engine

After its running, open the hood up and allow the engine to cool for at least 20 minutes. Hot engine components can burn you and also damage your engine if cool water is sprayed.

Remove Plastic Cover

Remove all plastic covers under the hood. These can be cleaned separately. Also, remove the negative terminal from the battery because spraying water can damage its electrical components. You can also remove the battery for further cleaning.

Cover Engine and Other Components

You can use plastic bags to cover sensitive electrical components, such as the ignition wires, battery, and engine control unit. You can also cover an air intake filter under the hood. But, if you feel you'll be more careful with your rinsing, then you can skip this step.

Degrease Engine from Dirt and Oil

Thoroughly degrease an entire engine compartment. You can choose any household degreaser; it could be a kitchen cleaner or an engine degreaser to spray.

Scrub Properly

Need not scrub all the area or components of engine. Depending on the dirt and time some areas, like the valve cover, need to be scrubbed. Use a small brush with synthetic, not a metallic bristle. You can add more degreaser if needed because it will make your work easy.

Rinse with a Power Washer

If you have a power washer to clean your engine it's well and good, you can also use a standard hose to clean your engine. Or you can go for a sprayer at the local DIY carwash. Rinse the entire compartment, working from back to front, wash out all degreaser but make sure you are not spraying towards the electrical components.

Dry Engine with the Help of Towel or Rag

If you have compressed air, you can blast air in the nooks and crannies to remove excess water. If not, wipe everything with a towel or rag. This will remove water and also help to remove the remaining grime.

To Conclude

Cleaning is also a part of engine maintenance and you are suggested to do engine cleaning periodically to enhance its efficiency and performance. If your vehicle has a used engine, chances are that you might have opted for a used engine with warranty but still, you can’t ignore the engine cleaning if you want the maximum performance in the long run.
